KU School of Music presents spring Undergraduate Honor Recital

LAWRENCE - Nine University of Kansas School of Music students will perform in the spring Undergraduate Honor Recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 31 in Swarthout Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The School of Music students performing are as follows (in order of performance):

Hyunmin Choi is a senior flute performance major from Cheong-ju, Chung buk, Korea. She is a student of Sarah Frisof, assistant professor of flute. Choi will perform the “Scherzo - Allegro vivace” and “Romance -Andantino” from Charles-Marie Widor’s Suite for Flute and Piano.

Shane McFadden is a sophomore piano performance major from Waterloo, Iowa studying with Jack Winerock, professor of piano. He will perform “Allegro energico” from Piano Sonata in E-flat minor, Op. 26 by Samuel Barber.

Mezzo-soprano Nicole Burkhart, a junior voice performance major, will perform “In uomini, in soldati” from Cosi Fan Tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Burkhart is from Lawrence, KS. She is a student of Joyce Castle, professor of voice.

Mickayla Chapman is a sophomore clarinet performance major from Lee’s Summit, MO. She will perform Romanza and “Allegro con fuoco from Sonata for Clarinet and Piano in B-flat by Francis Poulenc. Chapman is a student of Fred Ormond, lecturer in clarinet, and Stephanie Zelnick, associate professor of clarinet.

Kyle Naig is a junior piano performance major from Johnston, IA studying with Steven Spooner, associate professor of piano. He will perform “Fevilles mortes” and “Les fées sont d’exquises donseuses” from Preludes, Book II by Claude Debussy.

Baritone John Meyer, a voice performance major, will perform “Rain has Fallen,” “Sleep Now,” and “I Hear an Army” from Samuel Barber’s Songs for Voice & Piano, Op. 10. Meyer is a junior from Leawood, KS studying with John Stephens, professor of voice.

Emily Bachert is a senior clarinet performance major from Lawrence, KS. She will perform Rigoletto da concerto by Giuseppi Verdi and Luigi Bassi. Bachert is a student of Fred Ormond, lecturer in clarinet, and Stephanie Zelnick, associate professor of clarinet.

Regina Tanujaya is a junior piano performance major from Surabaya, Indonesia studying with Steven Spooner, associate professor of piano. She will perform Prelude No. 24 in D minor by Lera Auerbach. 

Soprano Katherine Dick is a senior voice performance major from Lawrence, KS studying with Julia Broxholm, associate professor of voice. She will perform “Il Barcaiolo” from Gaetano Donizetti’s Nuits d’été a Pausilippe.
