Academic Requirements for Admission
Incoming Freshman
(Residents of the US, In-state, and Out-of-State)
Freshmen are assured admission into KU’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Pre-Music if they meet one of these combinations:
- A 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale, no test scores required or regardless of test score submitted OR
- An ACT score of at least 21 or an SAT of at least 1060 plus a 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Students not meeting the above will be reviewed per individual case through admissions.
International Students
Please visit KU International Student Services.
Transfer or Change of School Students
Students must have a 2.75 GPA from any college or university including KU.
Students who would like to change their major to Music should fill out the Undergraduate Change of School Form and audition.
Readmitted Students
Former KU students seeking readmission must have left KU in good standing and have a successful audition.
If requesting admission after attending another institution, then the student must meet transfer admission requirements (see above).
Music Minor
Step 1: Apply
- If you are a new Freshmen or Transfer student, apply for admission to KU!
- If you are a current KU student or have already applied, skip to step 2.
Step 2: Audition
- Complete a successful audition on your major instrument/voice.
- Details can be found under "Undergraduate Audition Information".
Step 3: Submit
Once you pass your audition, you will be directed to submit the "Declaration of Minor" form to School of Music Student Services in Murphy Hall, Room 450.
